Lord Curzon once termed Alleppey as ‘the Venice of East’, because this town of covered by canals and other waterways from all sides. The clear blue waves of the Arabian Sea welcome you to this beautiful town. Alappuzha or Alleppey beach is one of the most well-known picnic spots in Alleppey. This oldest planned town of the region has an extended pier, around 137 years old. Vijaya beach park is another popular park quite close to the beach where one can indulge in boat riding.
You can indulge in a number of activities while on the beach. Take a stroll around the calm beach or watch the amazing view of the sunset. Make it a point to visit the old lighthouse, quite famous amongst the tourists. There are also a number of historic colonial-style buildings, which you must-visit. The beach bustles with activity during peak season otherwise it is a calm beach where you can see local hawkers selling their stuff. Some hawkers serve delicious spicy street food, which you can forge on during your beach-visit. However, the road along the beach is dotted with a number of restaurants and shops as well.
The beach of Alleppey is also perfect for various water sports activities such as a motorboat cruise, surfing, diving, para-sailing and swimming in the blue waters of the Arabian sea. Build sand castles with your children or play games like volleyball and Frisbee with your friends.
A camel ride is another popular activity at the Alappuzha beach. The clean beach makes it a popular activity amongst the tourists. Camel rides, affordable prices, are available during the evening time, mainly at the time of sunset (between 5 pm to 7 pm). Riding a camel’s back along the beach is an amazing experience.
