Bekal beach can rightly be called one of the most well-known tourist beach destinations in the south Indian state of Kerala. This beach does not only boasts of scenic beauty in abundance but also houses a magnificent historic fort. The surroundings of the bekal beach are simply enchanting and thus are perfect to have spend some relaxing moments with your loved ones. Located at a distance of around 16 km south of Kasargode district, on the National Highway 17, this beach is just a perfect mix of sun and surf. The Bekal beach along the Bekal fort offers ideal views of the fort. The Kanvatheertha beach near here has a large swimming pool-like formation in the sea itself which is a huge attraction for the tourists. This beautiful palm fringed beach also has a grassy beach park near to the fort and is also safe for swimming. The beach also encompasses a beautiful stretch of sand, which is equally popular amidst tourists and locals during the weekends.
The Bekal Fort is located near the Bekal beach. It is among the most well preserved forts in Kerala. It is situated on a headland which extends for 35 acres and juts into the Arabian Sea. The fort has a commanding position on the beach. The Bekal fort is more than 300 years old and it has specifically designed openings for defence and protection and was a major fort of defence which was extensively used in ancient days. The Fort offers a good view of the beach. A relatively calm beach, it is a perfect beach to enjoy a spectacular view of the sunset or simply take a walk.
Located at a distance of 6 kms from the Bekal Fort, Kappil beach is also a famous beach, which is away from the regular hustle-bustle. Otherwise a calmer beach, it bustles with activity during the weekend mainly during the weekends. A decent number of locals visit this beach for enjoying picnics with the loved ones. The cascading waves of the beach make an amazing sight for the onlooker. Covering an area of around 25 acres of land, this beach is a perfect place to enjoy and relax. Once you are done with your excursion of the Beka fort, walk a little up to the Kappil beach.
