Jatayu Nature Park is the newest addition to the list of tourist attractions in Kerala. The place owes its name from the mythical bird in Ramayana (Hindu epic), Jatayu, who tried to stop Ravana from kidnapping Goddess Sita. The nature park finds its place at Jatayupura in Kollam district and was opened for general public in 2016. Jatayu Nature Park sits under the rock which is carved like the mythical bird as it is said that Jatayu took his last breath here.
What’s interesting is the fact, that the rock structure and the park were the vision of Mr. Rajiv Anchal, renowned Malayalam film director and sculptor. The sculpture took 7 long years to be completed.
Stretching over an area of 65 acres, the nature park is a treasure trove for adventure enthusiasts. Jatayu Nature Park also known as Jatayu Earth Center has different activities that are spread on 4 hills.
There is a cable car ride to take you to the first hill hosting the World’s largest bird sculpture. Along with that, there is a mini theatre in the wing of the statue, Lord Rama temple, and an audiovisual museum. The second hill is named as the Adventure Rock Hill. It has activities like the vertical ladder, bouldering, chimney climbing, archery, zip-line, rappelling, valley crossing and more. The third hill is known by the name Elephant Rock. One can enjoy sky cycling, zip-line, and campfire here. The last hill offers a relaxing time via the Siddha Rejuvenation in natural caves where one can plan to stay as well. Along with that, there is a herbal garden on the hill.
