Placed at a distance of around 5 km from the Kollam town, Thangassery beach is an extremely popular beach of Thangassery village, which was one of the preferred settlement locations for the British, the Portuguese and the Dutch. This beach has silver-colored sand and stretches to around 3 km. Rising right above tall palm grooves is the prime attraction of the beach, a light house. This light house was constructed around a century ago for guiding sailors and fishermen. Between 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, visitors can climb up on the tower to have a nice view of the sea and the shore. There are ruins of a Portuguese fort nearby that is also worth-visit.
