One of the most gorgeous mansions of Kerala is Halcyon Castle, located in the International Beach Resort, Kovalam. Dating back to 1932, Halcyon Castle was meant to be served as a summer retreat for a family. The castle sets a great example of brilliance and luxury. With traditional Kerala-style architecture this beautiful mansion has well-maintained expansive lawns. Today, it has become a popular tourist attraction of Kerala.
In 1964, Halcyon Castle was sold to the Kerala Government by Thampuran and it further got converted into a luxurious hotel. ITDC (Indian Tourism Development Corporation) took care of the hotel, but later decided to sell it off to a private resort group. This lead to a dispute as the Kerala Government emphasized upon its historical importance and sought to make it a heritage site. However, Leela Group acquired it and now it belongs to Ravi Pillai Group.
